What to watch out for before installing a solar system

You must make sure that whatever solar company you go with, their probes will be compatible with the cylinder you have.It is recommended that the use the solar cylinder the solar company supply for you.Otherwise if you or your plumber source your own cylinder, there may be compatability problems down the line.

There will be probes at the top and the bottom of you cylinder and also one of the roof. Basically these all talk to each other through a control unit and bring on the solar pump and your auxilary source of heat when they need to. ie, when there is no heat on the roof >30 degrees your boiler will kick in to keep the cylinder to temperature. This is the only time the oil is used to heat the cylinder(december, january, february etc).

To install these probes into the cylinder, the solar company will have pockets that thread into the cylinder . These are used to insert the temperature probes which in turn will be able to calculate the temperatures at the top and at the bottom of the cylinder respectively.

In terms of wiring, Your control unit will control everything. This unit (which can be houses in your living area and shows temperatures on the roof and at the top and bottom of the cylinder, so you can see what your solar panel is producing) is wired to the solar pump, twice to the two stats on the cylinder, to your boiler, and to the stat on the roof.

Your Electrian should know this when chasing wires on the project
